Bone Health
Strong bones for an active life.
Bone loss is silent — it usually causes no symptoms until a fracture happens. At Rubin Sports Medicine, we help you protect bone strength, catch bone loss early, and lower your risk of a broken bone through evidence-based screening, personalized treatment, and practical lifestyle guidance. Osteoporosis is both preventable and treatable, and the right plan makes a real difference.
Why It Matters
Bone loss you can't feel
Up until about age 30, the body builds bone faster than it loses it — but that balance shifts with age, and bone loss can accelerate in the years after menopause. Because early bone loss causes no symptoms, many people don't know they have it until a bone breaks. Screening changes that: it identifies your risk while there's still time to act.

Bone Density Testing
What is a DEXA scan?
A DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) scan is a quick, painless, non-invasive test that measures bone mineral density — usually at the hip and spine. It's used to estimate fracture risk, detect bone loss early, and track changes over time. A DEXA scan requires a physician's order.
DEXA scans are performed at imaging centers. We review your results, interpret what they mean for your fracture risk, and build a treatment and monitoring plan tailored to you — and we can guide you on next steps if a scan would help.
Screening is generally recommended for women 65 and older, postmenopausal women with risk factors, men 70 and older, and anyone who has had an adult fracture, takes long-term steroids, or has a condition that affects bone.
